Web Space Manager

User Guide

The Delphi Forums Web Space Manager offers a basic set of user-friendly, easy-to-use features that can be used to upload images and webpages into your web space, using the browser you're already familiar with. There's no need to install and learn new programs and almost everything is accomplished with simple clicks or a little typing.

We know many members want to use their webspace to store image files they intend to use in their message board signatures. Using image files you've uploaded to your webspace is easier and safer than ever. Whether you drag and drop, copy and paste, or hand-code your HTML, the Web Space Manager keeps it simple.

If you get to the Web Space Manager login page by clicking the Web Space link in the Enhanced Feature Panel at the bottom of a message frame, you will only need to enter your password. Otherwise, you'll need to enter both your membername and your password. Once you've logged in, you'll find a variety of tools to help you manage your webspace. The table below provides some brief descriptions of those features and how to use them.

If you run into problems, please visit the Delphi Plus Members Forum, and post about them in the FTP/Web Space Manager folder where our Community Support team will be glad to help you resolve them.

Click on the browse button and find a graphic on your computer. Next, click the upload file button. Try it out!

The URL of the TOP folder in your webspace is the same as the correct VIEWING URL of your webspace. For coding, the name of your image file or your webpage file name would be added to the end of this URL.

Notice the correct name of your file on the left side. In the center, for information purposes, is the size and last modified date of your file. On the right, are the options to manipulate your file by deleting or changing the file name. The View Image link, when clicked, will open a pop up box of your image or your file. From this box you can drag and drop the image to a post (if you are using the WYSIWYG editor) or you can use copy and paste without fear of revealing your password. Other Browser users will select "Use HTML" in a post and type the HTML code in the text box into the open reply window.

Make selections to delete, rename or view your file. Practice using this feature a few times. Try out the drag and drop feature in the View Image option. Use copy and paste a few times in a post. While the Webspace Manager can work with filenames and directory names that contain spaces, there are still a few browsers that have difficulty displaying these, so it is BEST to avoid using spaces.

This is an active link. When clicked you will get a pop up box asking you if you want to download the file if you are using IE browser.

Clicking the link on the left side of your file list, a pop up download box will appear with the file information as above. Just click cancel unless you want to download the file to your computer. Some browser/OS combinations display a box similar to this, but the filename displayed is "index.php", no matter which file you clicked on. Click here if your browser behaves like this.

You can drag-and-drop this image into a message board post or into the signature composition editor on your My Forums page--no complicated HTML code required!

Click on "view image". Notice the correct URL for coding at the top. Use drag and drop for posting or copy and paste if you are using IE. When hand coding, use the HTML code in the text box to obtain the correct URL and other information about the file. One other feature is the alt="". Between those quote marks you should put what you would like for your graphic to say when the mouse is held over it or a blind person will hear instead of seeing the image. For instance: alt="My Forum Logo - Please visit!" Remember: If you use the WYSIWYG editor, use the Source Mode when inserting HTML into a post. If you use the regular post editor, make sure you check the box indicating your post or signature includes HTML!

To create a new folder or directory, put the name of the folder into the box and click Create Directory. The new folder will be now be listed.
Remember: For maximum browser compatibility, it is best not to use spaces in the name of a folder or file.

Click on the folder link to open the folder. Delete or rename the folder.

This shows your folder tree. To use the correct URL when hand coding you will need to use the complete URL. To move back to the main directory, click the up arrow on the folder above. Remember: each folder added to the tree must be added to the URL when coding.

Log off to close your webspace session.
Note** The Web Space Manager will terminate after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity.
